Reykjavík Arts Festival Hub: Artist Talk with Gaelynn Lea
Gaelynn Lea is not only a magnificent musician but also an excellent speaker. Here, she will discuss some of the challenges faced by a marginalized female musician in a world where the arts should be accessible to all. The event will take place in English.
Gaelynn Lea began playing violin 20 years ago after a creative music teacher helped her to adapt a playing style that suits her frame. Lea performs from her electric wheelchair, holding her instrument like a tiny cello. She loops her classically trained rhythms and melodies “to create a symphonic cacophony that is both glorious in its reach and profoundly introspective”.
