Kvæðakonan góða / IsMusTrad (Traditional Folk Singing)
The group, Kvæðakonan góða, consists of 11 women from Reykjavik, performs traditional singing within the rímur-tradition, using traditional melodies. Most of the verses are made by women.
The group will sing twice at Reykajvík Art Museum on Culture Night, at 15h30 at Kjarvalsstaðir and at 17h30 at Hafnarhús.
The oldest verses are from the 17th century and the latest are brand new. Rímur are documented in writing from 1380, and tell known stories such as the Icelandic Family Sagas in versified form. The verses we have chosen are more recent, mostly written by women describing the stories of their lives, feelings, interests or Greek mythology! Some of the melodies we use are very old and well known, others are new and some are made up while being performed. The group's aim is to learn and teach our heritage music, nurture it and re-create at the same time. The group has just recently performed in Berlin.
