Culture Night at the Reykjavik Art Museum

Pop-up Playground – Smástund

The Blue Blocks are an incredible play system for unlocking children’s creative spirit. They inspire them to design their own inventions, the possibilities are endless! 

3 PM-5 PM
The World Elves sing together on Culture Night 

An international children choir will be assembled on Culture Night in Reykjavík Art Museum Hafnarhúsið. There children have a entertaining event to be introduced to other languages, music and cultures through singing as well as being active participants by introducing their own language and music

5 PM-9 PM
Guided mini-tours of the exhibitions at Hafnarhús

Every half hour there will be a 10 min guided mini-tour of selected works. In Icelandic.

Bread Cake Competition

5 PM-11 PM
LR Trattoria

Vínbóndinn, Borðhald and the Reykjavík Art Museum will host LR Trattoria on the 2nd floor. A selection of natural wines and small dishes will be served.

5.30 PM and 7 PM
Redwine Yoga

Redwine yoga is a calm yoga for everyone over 20 years old who love red wine or at least like the smell of it.. Limited to 20 participants, first comes, first gets a mat.

Kvæðakonan góða 

The group, Kvæðakonan góða, consists of 11 women from Reykjavik, performs traditional singing within the rímur-tradition, using traditional melodies. Most of the verses are made by women.

Concert: DJ flugvél og geimskip

dj. flugvél og geimskip (aka Airplane & Spaceship) will perform in Hafnarhús but she has caught attention for her  unusual electronic music, unique singing and colorful stage performance.

Concert: Quindar

Quindar is an American band that consists of Mikael Jorgensen (of Grammy winning-band Wilco) and James Merle Thomas (a Ph.D scholar who has researched NASA’s visual iconography and former fellow at the National Air and Space Museum). Quindar employs synthesizers and laptops that sample sounds and voices from NASA archives.

Steinunn Þórarinnsdóttir artist will give a talk on her career and her artwork Trophies placed on top of Arnarhvoll. In Icelandic.

Family game initiated by the Reykjavik Art Museum in Perlufestin – women´s skulpture – garden in Hljómskálagarðurinn.

Orienteering for Families at Klambratún 

A fun and educational game in Klambratún park with focus on the public art around Kjarvalsstaðir. In Icelandic and English.

Workshop: On the transitory nature of natural phenomena

A workshop that focuses on strengthening the relationship between humans and nature. The workshop includes a series of independent but interconnected participatory projects open to all Cultural Night guests.

Short guided tours at Kjarvalsstaðir

Every half hour there will be a 10 min guided mini-tour of selected works. In Icelandic.

Concert: Night Images

At Kjarvalsstaðir on Culture Night Icelandic melodies by Atli Heimir Sveinsson will be performed to Jónas Hallgrímsson´s poems, along with Icelandic folksongs. Hólmfríður Jóhannesdóttir, mezzosoprano, will perform the songs along with Jón Sigurðsson pianist and Victoria Tarevskaia cellist.
