TALK Series: Pari Stave

Event location:

The third TALK Series guest of the year 2018 is curator Pari Stave.

Pari Stave is an art historian, curator, and museum administrator. In recent years she has curated and co-curated several exhibitions relating to photography, printmaking, and Scandinavian art, including Munch|Warhol and the Multiple Image; New Wave Finland: Contemporary Photography from the Helsinki School; and Propagating Eden: Uses and Techniques of Nature Printing.

The exhibition Ýmissa kvikinda líki - íslensk grafík, co-curated with Ingibjörg Johannsdóttir, will open at the National Gallery of Iceland on May 12. She is also co-editor, with Rúrí, of the exhibition catalogue, Hverfing|Shapeshifting.

In her capacity as senior administrator for the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Stave has been instrumental in bringing works by Icelandic artists into the museum's collection and forming a library of Icelandic art history.  In her presentation, Stave will discuss the position of modern and contemporary art within an encyclopedic museum and the strategy of the exhibition program at The Met Breuer.

Under the title TALK Series, Reykjavík Art Museum, Icelandic Art Centre, and the Icelandic Academy of the Arts, are initiating a collaborative visitor program, offering a platform for a continual professional, international encounter to take place in Iceland. Comprising visits by ground-breaking figures in the visual arts, this program initiative will bring to the Icelandic art community, as well as to the public at large, the burgeoning ideas and diverse practices that define the terms and shape the dialogue within the international contemporary art scene.

Events take place in English and are open to everyone, free with admission.
