Painting Space: NASA´s Art Program
NASA has commissioned artists since the 1960s to depict spaceflight and other activities. Join Professor James Merle Thomas for this free lecture to examine how American artist Robert Rauschenberg and others created a new iconography in their artistic depictions of space exploration.
Professor James Merle Thomas is a Ph.D scholar who has researched NASA’s visual iconography and former fellow at the National Air and Space Museum. Currently Professor Thomas is assistant professor of art history at Temple University and a member of the electronic music duo Quindar. Quindar is in Iceland by invitation of US Embassy Reykjavik Iceland and the State Department's Arts Envoy program.
This free event is open to the public and will take place in English.
