Wagner 200th Birhtday – Concerts at Kjarvalsstaðir - Sunuday 26 May 5 p.m.
Concerts held in relation to Richard Wagner´s 200th Birthday at Kjarvalsstaðir, Sunday 26 May at 5 p.m. Performers are Anna Jónsdóttir, soprano and Richard Simm, pianist.
The program includes French poems Wesendonk lieder and three arias. The poems are from the early part of Wagner´s carrier and the arias Lohengrin and Tannhäuser are composed in the 1840s. After the break the Wesendonk poems by Mathilde, wife of Wagner´s patron Otto Wesendok, will be performed. The music is composed in 1877 and 1878 and was partly written as a study to the opera Tristan og Ísold. Therefore the concerts will conclude with Mild und leise, an aria from that opera.
