Pauline Olivero - portrett, Kjarvalsstaðir, Saturday 24 November at 3 p.m.
Pauline Oliveros is one of the most influential American composers of experimental music of 20th Century. At the start of her career she wrote a-tonal chamber music but became part of the San Francisco Tape Music Center in the 80s, which was both a studio and a musical civil movement that housed all sorts of experimentation and art events. After working with a customized accordion and electronic instruments in real time, she started exploring the boundaries of improvisation and compositions and developed a philosophy that she calls Deep Listening. Icelandic group Fengjastrútur has been practicing deep listening and will take perform some of her works, ranging from most periods of this unique composers career.
