Guided tours at Kjarvalsstaðir - Fridays at 11 a.m.
Reykjavik Art Museum now offers guided tours in English at Kjarvalsstaðir every Friday at 11 am from June to August. The entrance ticket is valid for three museums at the same day and the guidance is free. Kjarvalsstaðir houses the works of one of Iceland’s most influential and recognised artists, Jóhannes S. Kjarval (1885-1972).
The exhibition in Kjarvalsstaðir’s east gallery features key works from Kjarval. These works offer a unique and powerful retrospective of the career of Iceland’s most beloved painter. The exhibition, Hangman's Rock - The Delirium of Vision, is located in the west gallery. It aims to shed new light on the phenomenology of visual perception and how its paradoxes are echoed in the work of Kjarval and other Icelandic artists.
The museum also has a bright and spacious restaurant with a wonderful view of the museum grounds (Miklatún) and a design-and-book store.
