Start programming! LornaLAB - Hafnarhus. Saturday 27 August 1-5 p.m.
LornaLAB in collaboration with Reykjavik Art Museum offers a series of workshops in its program of events. The first workshop during this winter is moderated by Hannes Högni Vilhjálmsson, programmer and scientist at University of Reykjavik.
Computer technology is perfect for interactive art creation, but understanding of computer internals and its direct control often seems to be considered some mysterious science reserved for experienced programmers. However, the programming language “Processing” was created with artists and designers in mind. For example, it is very easy to work with various kinds of inputs and outputs in “Processing”. But like other programming languages, “Processing” is based on the fundamental operation of the computer itself, which can be interesting and useful to understand before starting to program. In this workshop, Hannes will introduce the computer and its programming, starting from the very foundation, and use “Processing” to demonstrate. Participants who bring their own laptops can retrieve the “Processing” programming environment for free from the web and start programming. No prior experience with programming is expected.
LornaLAB is a newly founded (late summer 2010) forum for the creative use of technology. Its current function is information, resource and inspiration sharing which has taken the form of lectures, fieldtrips and workshops in its short life to date. Among its members are industrial designers, art theorists, computer scientists, AI researchers, music theorists and new media artists to name a few.
