Jóhannes Sveinsson Kjarval – From the Museum’s Collection
5 January – 6 April 2008
Kjarvalsstaðir
Jóhannes Sveinsson Kjarval (1885 – 1972) occupies a special place in Iceland’s cultural history.
Through his art, Icelanders have learned to look at the natural features of their country in a new way, and have gotten acquainted with the persons and worlds of fantasy that Kjarval reads out of the landscape. His subject matter has often been divided into the three categories of landscape, portraiture, and fantasy; the current exhibition follows this division.
