Erró - Drawings
3 September 2011 - 19 August 2012
World-renowned artist Erró might not be as well known for his drawings as for his paintings, but this exhibition presents around 200 of his works. The oldest are from 1944, the latest quite recent, and the artist has utilized a multitude of techniques and methods in creating them.
It was a watershed in Erró’s art when his collages first started to appear. At that time he completely abandoned the graphic creation and his collages became sketches on which he based his paintings, graphic works and aquarelles.
The hand was no longer the main interpreter in his works of art; it was rather an instrument to project images on paper, canvas and other media, often with the aid of slide projectors or overhead projectors.
This exhibition is organized in a close cooperation with Erró and based on works from both the artist’s private collection and the collection of Reykjavik Art Museum.
Curated by Danielle Kvaran.
